Nu-metal for the modern day citizen?
A three track demo from Finland. You’ll know right away that there’s gonna be some good sounding stuff regarding production so we can just acknowledge the fact that it’s true. Good production!
Regarding the music then? Well, we can call it modern heavy metal if you want. But, the first track gives me some strange nu-metal vibe off a mix between Coal Chamber and Korn cleverly hidden under a cover of commercial cleanliness? Just listen to the song style used by the singer, the verse staggers along as Dez Fafara in the song “Loco” but when the chorus comes along, he changes to Jonathan Davis style of being hurt, heartbroken and screaming like somebody just stabbed him in the back. And to be brutally honest, it doesn’t sound all that good. It sounds slightly out of tune here and there and a little too much hurtful and painful.
The same technique is used in the third song, “This misery”, and you gotta stop overusing that stuff dude, it’s not good for any of us, it sounds awful. When he’s using the more grunting style, it sounds better though. The rest of the band plays clean and proper, and everybody knows how to handle their gear. The drummer, Miko, serves up some nice grooves, especially in “Obsolete”, love the ghost-noting in the chorus. The bass and guitars are executed as should be done. Nothing much to be picky about, but on the other hand not very much to write home to momma about either.
I’m not a super-fan of the nu-metal-ish atmosphere that flows generously in this recording. I wont say so much more about this, more than it is also available on Spotify, so you can make your own judgment, I feel no strong need trying to dissect this more.
I’d rather moonwalk in bare feet over broken glass bottles from the bio-lab than listen to this again.
